Fall Decor Trends 2021

The cooler months have us retreating into our homes in search of warmth and comfort. Across fall trends we love that each styling method goes back to evoking feelings of nostalgia and reflection in our homes this season. Transitioning your home for autumn doesn't need to be kitschy or cliche. We love a timeless seasonal look. The good news is that you can easily tackle seasonal decorating with a few key decor staples to add that autumnal touch to your home interior. Read below for our design team's top fall decor trends of 2021!

1. Luxurious Fabrics

With colder weather comes the need to warm up your space. At Sage Interiors we have always embraced a year-round velvet inspired design, but we love it most during fall and winter. Along with luscious jewel-toned colors, velvet is the perfect texture for creating a cozy, fall-ready ambience.

2. Amber Colored Glassware

Deep reds, burnt oranges, and warm yellows are everywhere this time of the year. Colored glassware beautifully compliments the mid-century retro interior design trend this year. These hues bring color and depth to your solid oak dining tables – making your tablescape both functional and beautiful.

3. Layers on Layers

Fall styling is about mixing textures, accentuating colors, displaying artwork in the season's neutral palette, and adding sentimental scents to create a cozy, homey feeling. Create a warm, relaxing atmosphere with multitudes of warm low lighting, table lamps, and handmade candles with autumnal scents. Bring added warmth by layering as many elements of your room as you can, like locally-made throw pillows, Moroccan throws, vintage rugs, dried fall leaves, warm-toned picture frames, etc. Just avoid anything too new, too old, or too forced. Your home should authentically feel like you.

Ethnicraft Ellipse Sofa

We probably fall in love with a new piece of furniture daily. And well... here we go again! Our team recently unpacked the new Ethnicraft Ellipse Sofa in our Downtown Tacoma showroom, and we are in love with its simplicity and sophistication.

Jacques Deneef designed the Ellipse sofa for Ethnicraft as an elegant and generous piece. The natural fabric is woven in Belgium exclusively for this furniture. The coated fabric resists small accidents, preventing minor accidents – perfectly fitting a living room made for entertaining.

The Ethnicraft Ellipse sofa is available in either oatmeal or ash, two sophisticated yet straightforward colors that will complement an urban apartment and a country house. To complete the look, add plush cushions, a textured throw, or a multipurpose glass tray.

We're thrilled to have both sofa colors on display in our gallery right now. Drop by anytime between 10 - 6 pm to get a feel for the sophisticated, organic shape and lofty comfort it offers.

Nature-Inspired Earth Day

Nature-Inspired Earth Day

An honest and mindful lifestyle begins at home. This Earth Day, we are eager to dive deeper into our sustainably-sourced designs and help you fall deeper in love with our favorite eco-conscious styles. Since the early seed of Sage Interiors, we have made it our mission to make beautiful, responsibly-made designs more accessible to those looking to transform their spaces into a peaceful home sanctuary. Take a closer look at a select few of our nature-inspired favorites.

FSC-Certified with Ethnicraft

While hundreds of our carefully curated furnishings are created with sustainably-sourced woods, we specifically love Ethnicraft's commitment and love for the forest. In a world where trends change from one year to the next, Ethnicraft makes a conscious effort to create designs that will last for generations. The beautiful timber used in their furniture comes from FSC-Certified or sustainably managed forests. Even more, they are mindful of waste. The sawdust from logs is either used as fuel for the drying ovens or compressed as a base for pellets. Ethnicraft's designs exemplify the simplicity and elegance found in nature. It is the feeling we love to bring into people's homes.

Upcycling with Gus* Modern

Gus Modern is known for its sleek lines, and mid-century modern designs. They have a commitment to eco-friendly production, which we absolutely adore when combined with their award-winning designs. Select Gus* sofas and sectionals contain a clean, ultra soft, long-strand fiber material that offers the comfort and feel of traditional waterfowl down. This synthetic material is created through a process that benefits the environment by diverting plastic bottles away from landfills, waterways, and oceans. Even the frames are constructed with kiln-dried 100% FSC-Certified hardwood in support of responsible forest management!

REUSE + RECYCLE

At Sage Interiors, we put our heart into everything we do. From sourcing and design to our customer care, we strive to create strong relationships with our artisans and clients. Giving back and nurturing our Earth is done in many ways here at Sage Interiors, and helping to reduce waste, and repurposing old furniture is one of them.

We partner with NW Furniture Bank to provide useful, donated furniture to local families in need. Sage Interiors’s dedicated delivery team will donate your old furniture to the NW Furniture Bank on your behalf, so you can give back to your local community too!

"Earth Day is every day. We choose to love, nurture and give back to nature each day, and still it will always respond to us with beauty and inspiration." Nicole Wakley

Thank you to all of our wonderful clients for choosing to love our mindfully-made pieces. It makes all the difference to us, and this Earth we share.

Spring 2021 Decorating Tips

Quick Decor Ideas To Freshen Up Your Home For Spring

Refreshing your home for spring is probably more simple than you think. Our favorite thing about a spring home refresh is that your decor is centered around the warmer weather approaching and bringing the outdoors in. Follow below for our quick and easy tips to decorate your home for spring!

Entryway Florals + Greenery

Start with your entryway. The world is slowly opening back up again, and with the warmer weather around the corner, so will your front door! Make it a bright and beautiful welcome by adding fresh plants and florals to your front entrance! We love a tall and topical plant placed in ceramic planter next to the front door.

For a small space solution, opt for colorful florals or green stems in a handblown vase. Bring the outdoors in with fresh greenery and florals to brighten up any room!

A Fresh Kitchen

Updating your kitchen doesn't need to become an entire remodel. Make it a quick and easy facelift by focusing on a clean, simple foundation and introducing color and layers on top. Choose a few new cutting boards to display on your countertops or behind your oven range. The wood will warm up your sparkling white kitchen while showing off that you are ready to entertain.

Bring new layers and color into your kitchen with a vintage vinyl floor runner! We adore these effortless floor solutions. Vintage vinyls bring color and pattern to any space while remaining conveniently durable and easy to wipe down.

Organic Woven Textures

Sleepy wicker outdoor patio furniture is a thing of the past. Liven up a classic trend with textured accent pillows and warm woods. Embrace the soft, natural look with organic woven pieces, jute rugs, and handmade baskets for storage. These organic textures give off a playful bohemian feel while creating a relaxed oasis ready for warm sunshine and cold drinks out on the patio.

Smells Like Spring

There are many different elements to value when making your home look and feel like spring. But one of the most important and often overlooked concepts is scent. When we think of spring, we think of blooming flowers and fresh rainfall. Create the ultimate ambiance by make your guests feel inspired and rejuvenated with a crisp home scent for spring!

Whether it's your front patio, backyard, or even your apartment balcony, transform it into your perfect outdoor oasis. TREE is excited to feature new and unique outdoor furniture pieces uniquely inspired by the beautiful Pacific Northwest – designed to not only last your family through the season but through generations to come.

Ethnicraft Outdoor Collection

Ethnicraft's newly launched teak outdoor collection is designed to adapt well to a range of environmental conditions, whether that be on an urban terrace or beachfront patio; warm and tropical or cool and mountainous. The beauty of teak is that, even when left in its natural state, outdoors and in any season, it is basically maintenance-free.

We love how all of Ethnicraft's designs are intentionally timeless. They withstand trends and associate well with different styles, and they can be passed on from one home to the next, carrying over the stories of one life into another.

Bok Outdoor Dining Chair

A signature Ethnicraft design, Alain van Havre’s iconic Bok dining chair now makes its way into the open air! Bring structural elegance and contemporary craftsmanship to your outdoor lifestyle.

Teak Jack Outdoor Sofa

Beautiful from every angle, luxuriant shapes and curves form the basis of the Jack sofa collection. Featuring upholstery woven in Belgium, every detail has been meticulously crafted to ensure comfort and elegance when enjoying the outdoors.

BOK OUTDOOR DINING TABLE

Just like its matching chair, the Bok dining table is another signature design. Its airy shape yet rock solid construction make this piece a timeless and remarkable design to enjoy for all the years to come.

Along with the new Ethnicraft collection, our design team has carefully curated various outdoor pieces that work beautifully across style and function. Here are some of our favorites!

Strength and Detail in the Mikado Dining Table

The Mikado dining table, designed by Alain van Havre in Belgium, has been one of Ethnicraft's most recognizable designs for years. Its sculptural character is the result of a quest to find a balance between functionality and stability. Mikado's legs interlock like a well-thought-out puzzle. We love the simplicity of the design – easy to dress up or down but timeless across styles and eras.

It's true; the signature legs make this piece effortlessly distinctive. We adore the design in all shapes and sizes, including the oval and the round. Still, we swoon over the original mikado dining table – though its design imitates a rectangle, it has subtle curves to its long lines, reflecting the fluid inspiration within the hull of a boat. The thoughtful small details like this are what keep Ethnicraft a long time favorite of TREE.

"The Mikado can so effortlessly serve as the strong bones of a home's interior. The table design gracefully reflects the beauty and strength found in nature, which allows it to fit into any style."
- Nicole Wakley, TREE founder and lead design stylist

STRENGTH IN STYLE

Like your favorite pair of jeans, the Mikado dining table is a staple, no matter your theme or style. The designs here are a select few of personalized mood boards that our home style team created for a client. They show the simplicity and flow the Mikado brings through styles. From rustic to edgy, or even whimsical, the Mikado is a timeless piece perfect to layer from.

Local Maker: Candice Rex

Local Maker: Candice Rex

Meet Candice Rex.

Washington state based abstract artist, Candice Rex, has developed her skills in Abstract Expressionism, contemporary and modern art for over twenty years. Her work is inspired by her passion for healing, growth, connection, and empathy.

Creating art has always been a significant influence on her life. As a child and young adult, art served her in leisure to communicate and release. While these original purposes have endured, art's meaning has elevated to that of absolute necessity in her adult life. Art has provided a spiritual compass, emotional catharsis, satiated the intangible and helped smooth life's rough edges. Every piece of art she has created has also enabled her to develop herself. She invites you to join through her art as she continues her emotional, visual, and tactile exploration.

She uses her artwork to spread awareness of Dystonia, a rare neuromuscular disease that has affected her personally for the last ten years. Dystonia is a movement disorder in which a person's muscles contract uncontrollably. The contraction causes the affected body part to twist involuntarily, resulting in repetitive movements or abnormal postures. Dystonia can affect one muscle, a muscle group, or the entire body. There is currently no cure for Dystonia. Candice shows her support and graciously donates a portion of each art sale to Dystonia Research. For more information, please visit https://dystonia-foundation.org/

Read below for a Q& A with Candice Rex.

Abstract artist, Candice Rex and her mixed media piece, Rosé.

TREE: When did you begin your craft?

Candice: I have been practicing and study art since I was a child. My maternal grandmother is a portrait painter and has taught art professionally and I was always inspired by her and felt driven to create.

In my early teens, I realized art was a driving force. I began drawing and sketching and studying art history, physiology, fashion, design, etc.

As a mature teenager, I began exploring with paint; this was where I found my greatest life's passion. Since the age of 18, I have been painting and producing steadily. The process and art have changed and evolved over time, the creative drive and artistic goals and concepts steadily increasing.

TREE: Was there a pivotal moment when you saw you could do this for a living?

Candice: As a young girl, I believe my artistic journey began as a student of art, learning steps and processes through teachers, art books, studying drawings, and other art forms. It wasn't until I was a teenager that I began truly creating my own work, and was highly devoted to dance, drawing, music, and creative writing. At 18, I began painting in my home studio; after painting my very first piece, I began receiving positive feedback from friends who encouraged me. I soon began receiving independent commissions. I started working on my first collection in 1998 and had a successful show at a local Art Gallery at the age of 20, in 2000. This was where I learned, if I put in the work and challenged myself, I could truly do this for a living.

Over the years, I have pursued other career goals but always painted or sculpted. Art is my constant. Regardless of the changes and challenges I've faced in my life, creating new art has always grounded me, helped me focus, offered me a cathartic emotive outlet. I am currently focusing on abstract expressionist painting and sculpture while working towards a degree in art therapy.

TREE: How would you describe how you discovered TREE and how our lovely partnership came to fruition?

Candice: My dear friend, fellow artist, and interior design enthusiast, Ray Audrey, told me about Tacoma's flagship TREE location. She said I would love it and had only amazing things to say, she encouraged me to visit the showroom.

Synergies seemed to align as that very same week, Nicole, visionary, and founder of TREE reached out to me regarding the painting Rain via Instagram. We made an appointment for me to come in, see the space and show some of my work. I visited that same week and was so inspired by the incredible design, space, and mission. We have enjoyed working together ever since. I'm currently working on several TREE exclusive pieces inspired by the current design collection.

Several pieces by Candice can be found across our gallery floor. Visit us today and experience the beauty and depth that Candice brings to our space.

The Mindfully Made Wangari Sofa

The Mindfully Made Wangari Sofa

At Sage Interiors, we are committed to sourcing eco-friendly furniture that bring warmth, joy, and a guilt-free conscience to your home. Our designs are crafted with sophisticated, mindfully-made materials that are either FSC™-certified or sustainably-sourced to ensure our signature collections always meet the highest eco-craftsmanship standards.

We are excited to add the Wangari Sofa to our sustainable furniture collection here at TREE. As a tribute to Wangari Maatai, we named this timeless sofa Wangari. Wangari was an environmental activist, politician, the founder of the Green Belt Movement, and the first African American to receive a Nobel Prize. Embedded in eco-craftsmanship, the sofa honors her and her honest work.

Historically, the textile industry has contributed significantly to water waste and freshwater pollution. Currently, production is shifting to better align with consumer awareness, and we're eager to contribute to that. Wangari has been built with sustainable values in mind. Find out more below.

"When we plants trees, we plant the seeds of peace and hope."
- Wangari Maathai

Water bottles diverted from landfills were repurposed to produce recycled yarn for the Wangari Sofa, which is then woven into its luxurious fabrics.

Wangari's Sustainable Process:

  • Constructed with FSC-certified woods
Post-consumer bottles are collected, washed, chopped, melted into chips, then made into yarn

  • The back, seat, and arms are constructed with PET bottle fibers

  • Produced in a North America-based factory that generates more energy via solar power than the factory utilizes

This eco-chic, sophisticated sofa is available for you to experience in our heritage gallery today. The billowy cushioning and exaggerated proportions bring fresh European vibes to everyday lounging, with overfilled arms that provide structure and softness. We are thrilled to add an exceptional piece like this to our Sage collection of eco-chic furniture made from the heart.
